Child Abuse/Neglect Hotline
Phone (414) 220-SAFE
Description All concerns about the physical safety of a child should be directed to this hotline. A person calling the hotline should be prepared to discuss his/her concerns in detail, and should be ready to provide as much information about the child(ren), parent and family background as possible (eg, full name, address, DOB, school currently attending, etc.). Callers will be encouraged to identify themselves, but may remain anonymous. (If the client should choose to disclose his/her name, it is supposed to remain confidential, but it is often released accidentally or spoken in court.) Anonymous reports are still investigated, but receive far less attention and credibility than those by identified reporters.

Potential outcomes as a result of calling the hotline include removal of the child(ren) from the home, enrolling family in safety services program and leaving the child in the home, and investigation and case closure with no services. (This is not an exclusive list - just the most common outcomes.) If criminal activity is alleged, the Bureau may contact the police department and the perpetrator may face criminal charges.
